"The Magician's Hat" Sparks Conversation Around Student's Dreams at Moulton Elementary

October 31, 2018

Thanks to your support, the Spark Foundation has officially started our campaign of sending diverse volunteers into Des Moines Public Schools ! Kourtney Perry, owner of Privacy LLC, is kicking us off at Moulton Elementary by reading with Kimberly Smith’s second grade class and donating two books written by African American authors to the classroom library. As a parent herself, Kourtney knows just how important reading with children can be to Spark a love of reading. She was very excited to share that passion with the kids in her community.

Kourtney’s excitement really translated to the students and faculty, and it was a rewarding experience for everyone. Ms. Smith even says, “Thank you to Spark and Kourtney for donating your time and all your teaching powers in order to let my kids hear a different voice besides my own for a change. I put the book in the library and they are so excited about it.”

Looking for ways to help but unable to volunteer time? Visit Sparkfndn.org and make a donation! Any amount helps, and one hundred percent of each dollar donation goes directly toward book purchases and Spark programming.
